Modal decomposition of partially coherent flat-topped beams produced by multimode lasers.

چکیده
We present a simple mathematical model giving a possible description of a partially coherent light beam exhibiting a flat-topped transverse intensity profile. Such a model allows us to deduce the modal distribution inside a multimode stable optical cavity, assuming that the modes are of the Hermite-Gauss type. The analytical expression used to represent flat-topped profiles is of the flattened Gaussian type and leads to an exact, closed-form expression for the M(2) factor of the output beam. An analogous procedure could be used to treat the general problem of deducing the modal distribution inside a laser cavity starting from intensity measurements of the output beam.

Reliability Analysis of FSO Communication Links Using Aberrated Divergent rectangular Partially Coherent Flat- Topped Beam
The effects of aberration on the Bit-Error-Rate (BER) and reliability of free- space optical (FSO) communication links are investigated. Based on aberrated divergent rectangular partially coherent flat-topped beam formula on the receiver plane and considering the atmosphere losses due to absorption and scattering, numerical values for Power In Bucket (PIB), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and BER a...

In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of a partially coherent flat-topped (PCFT) beam through turbulent atmosphere. The analytical expressions for the spectral density and the beam width of the astigmatic PCFT beams with circular symmetry propagating in turbulent atmosphere are derived. It is shown that the spectral density and beam width of these beams in turbulent atmosphere are h...
متن کاملM2-factor of coherent and partially coherent dark hollow beams propagating in turbulent atmosphere.
Analytical formula is derived for the M(2)-factor of coherent and partially coherent dark hollow beams (DHB) in turbulent atmosphere based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel integral and the second-order moments of the Wigner distribution function. Our numerical results show that the M(2)- factor of a DHB in turbulent atmosphere increases on propagation, which is much different from its invariant ...
متن کاملIncoherent beam combining using stimulated Brillouin scattering in multimode fibers.
A beam combining technique for producing a single, spatially coherent beam from two mutually incoherent (temporally and spatially) lasers is demonstrated and the spatial coherence properties of the resulting beam are characterized. The technique is based on simultaneous excitation of stimulated Brillouin scattering by two independent lasers operating at two different wavelengths in a long multi...
